The Captain’s Table was a new seafront eatery and takeaway that replaced a site left derelict for several years following a fire. Working closely with the investors, Gutxi designed a new concept for the site and submitted a business case and proposal that resulted in a successful competitive tender and the granting of a new lease by Teignbridge District Council. Gutxi then led this project through to completion, including the design and fit out of an 88 seater restaurant, bar, new kitchen, service lifts and internal staircase. Situated in such a sensitive and prominent location, it was essential for the design to deliver both aesthetically and commercially.
Amazing views over the South Devon coast
The project was started in 2022 and after an investment of nearly £800,000, the new restaurant diner opened its doors in Easter 2023. The new restaurant provides guests with amazing views over Teignmouth seafront, the den and further afield looking out towards the South Devon coast.
South Devon environmental champion
The restaurant has since become part of the Venus Company, an award winning group of coastal cafes founded by Michael Smith, Louisa Newman and Lee Porter. The company is an environmental champion and operates two other beautiful beach cafes at Bigbury-on-Sea South Hams and Broadsands Beach in Paignton Devon. The company’s mission is to be the greenest café operator serving the best locally sourced ingredients.
