Nestled in the heart of the Torquay, just a short walk from the harbour and a growing independent restaurant and eatery scene, Palm Coco offers a diverse range of flavours from across the world. It is committed to sourcing locally and cooking ingredients from scratch.
Grassroots regeneration
Gutxi transformed this vacant commercial unit into an independent tapas bar and restaurant called PalmCoco. As a grassroots regeneration project involving localised investment, consumption, growth, reinvestment, and improvement—with minimal extraction—this project was particularly rewarding. As a direct result of this project, a new business was launched and jobs were created; a local company grew, and its workers were paid; wages and company profits were spent and reinvested locally; property rents and local taxes were paid; a new eatery was created for a new target audience; and a local street was improved. Furthermore, by procuring services and products locally and repurposing rather than demolishing, the project achieved a low carbon footprint. The town, local economy, community, and environment all benefited.
