Director

Experience:

Started my design career in London during the eighties, where I worked for major high street brands such as House of Fraser and John Lewis. In 2000, I returned to Devon and started my own design agency. Working with a wide range of leisure and retail companies both locally and nationally as the head of my own company has been a hugely rewarding challenge.

Being based in Devon gives us the opportunity to work with some of the leading businesses in the region and develop long-term professional relationships.

Seeing good design help clients project come to life and make people smile – I never get tired of that.

My daughters call me a Merman because I am in the sea all year round. Mainly open water (wild) swimming and body boarding, but I also enjoy a days fishing.

Experience:

I was thrown in at the deep end and tasked with building a software consultancy practice in 1995. It was hard work but I loved it and, after a few years of coasting, I had stumbled on something that I was good at. This period turned out to be a monumental time in tech and I was lucky enough to experience dotcom mania first hand (and witness the crash). I then went out on my own and started a tech remote managed services company. My company grew fairly quickly, going from two to over 60 staff in five years, and it built up a considerable corporate client base. It was eventually acquired by a PLC tech services company. Seeing first-hand how technology adoption has changed big-business, was fascinating. It’s now interesting to see the adoption curve playout longer term, as smaller enterprises integrate tech. I have always been fascinated by enterprise innovation.

My first business, a boutique consultancy, helped mission-driven organizations to grow and make their goals a reality. I have 12 years of experience, raising and deploying impact capital into emerging markets and post-conflict economies. I am a fervent advocate for refugee rights, a champion for diversity in investment finance, and a firm believer in the transformative power of design to reinvent our world for the better.

Associate Director Interior Design

Experience:

I have worked in interior architectural design for over 13 years. After graduating with a BA Honours in Interior Design, I spent over six years in retail outlet design. During this time, I worked on projects for Osprey London, Orvis, The Conran Shop, and AIS group. I also started an interior design company, prior to joining gutxi. I now focus on innovative interior design, mainly within office and education environments. I have won awards for my office designs and have worked on a Grand Designs project. During my career, I have become adept at managing design-process challenges.

I spend my days creating 3D realistic renders and technical joinery details, bringing concepts to life.

I’m also often onsite, ensuring that fit out projects are successfully delivered.

Romina Torres

Romina Torres

Interior Design Manager

Experience:

I gained a BA Hons degree in Interior Design from the University of Barcelona, followed by a Masters in Window Dressing and Visual Merchandise. Barcelona is also my home city and, with its striking historic and modern architecture, it has been an inspiration for much of my work. Since moving to the UK, I have carried out numerous commercial and residential projects.

I believe that well-designed spaces positively impact on quality of life; and I strive to do justice to this through my work. While I keep up to date with trends, I feel that it is important to remain grounded; to ensure that my designs, while fresh and innovative, remain timeless.

I love attending design shows and keeping up with Pinterest! I also have a passion for travelling. I find that exploring new places is a great way to get inspiration for future designs.

Whether it’s swimming, climbing, or going on long Devon hikes with friends and my dog Bruno, I love spending time outdoors. I am also passionate about yoga and setting myself new challenges; from swimathons to marathons.

Digital Developer

Experience:

I studied IT in Manchester; graduating in 2002 and started my first digital marketing role in 2005. Over the next 10 years I worked my way up to manage the digital development team before leaving the role to have children. I then continued to take on similar projects on a contract basis, 10 years later I still enjoy a more flexible approach. I split my time between online marketing, web and application development. I have an analytical brain and an inability to give up without finding a solution.

Now you know…

I reserve an hour every morning to enjoy a walk along the canal with our dog Gizmo – whatever the weather, which is often ‘interesting’.
